The Client: It was wonderful to be back working again with the team at Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate. As a hotel photographer it was a real treat to photograph the newly refurbished Clocktower Brasserie.
The Clocktower offers a relaxed informal dining experience during the day shifting to a glamorous feel in the evening. This contrasts perfectly with Rudding Park’s other restaurant Horto which holds 3 AA Rosettes and focuses on contemporary fine dining.
Photography approach: There were two separate elements to the brief – interiors and food photography. The Clocktower Brasserie is bright and vibrant and I used ambient light to let the decor and furniture shine. We also created a series of images showcasing the interior with evening light. The space takes on a very different atmosphere and the images capture the warmth and luxury of the space.
I always work tethered and on a tripod for interiors shoots so I can dig into the details and bring out the best of the available light. Working tethered is also a great way to build a collaborative approach on location as it enables my clients to be involved in the creative process. After all it is their vision that I am bringing to life and it is so positive to share this throughout the shoot on the larger screen.
It was also great working with the front of house team to create some style images with deeper narrative around the interiors.
With the food photography element we focused on several hero dishes from the menu. To match in with the interiors images the styling was kept clean and bright with a good nod to the decor colours.
