Hotel photography – The Vices

I’ve loved working on this hotel photography commission for new hospitality brand The Vices in York.  The independent hotel is due to open later in 2021 and so to have been involved from the concept and development stages is such a privilege.  The Vices will feature just a handful of stylishly designed suites for a really exclusive guest experience.

Early shoots have focused on supporting narrative around brand ethos.  At the core of this has been portrait photography to introduce the brand founders Daniel and Moreno. Daniel is a sommelier and chef and his passion for fine Italian wines is behind the launch of ‘The Archive’ which offers a wonderful wine shopping experience.  A wonderful portfolio of images has also been created to support storytelling around Italian wines and food as an introduction to the experiences that await when the hotel opens in 2021.  Styled food and wine photography set ups were captured alongside documentary style images that bring in a feel for customer journey.  I’ve also captured a great portfolio of images to showcase Daniel’s knowledge and expertise as a sommelier.

Photography has also been taken behind the scenes to introduce the building and its development.  Having a record that showcases the building and its original features was so important to Daniel and Moreno.  There are some amazing contemporary design plans in place with plenty of references to the origins of the building as a Victorian Police Station.

Photography will continue to develop alongside the building and the brand and I can’t wait to see Daniel and Moreno’s vision come to light.

It’s been fantastic to work again alongside the brilliant team at brand agency NIMA and copywriter INK GARDENER.  Nima have created a beautiful website that really gets to the heart of the tone and feel of the brand.  In addition to the website images have been used through social media platforms and to support PR campaign work.  There has been some great editorial coverage in both trade and regional press demonstrating that even before opening there is scope to use images to build brand awareness and engagement.

My work with hospitality brands always takes a wider storytelling approach.  After all guest and customer experience stems from a combination of service, people, food and drink product as well as environment.  I love to dig into the details and bring the personalities of the people behind the business to the fore.  You can view more work for hospitality brands through my website:
