PHOTOGRAPHY FOR INDEPENDENT SHOPS
Kemps General Stores in Malton
My work with small businesses takes me into many different industry sectors, one of which is offering photography for independent shops. Kemps General Stores is a stunning new independent shop run by Liz Kemp and is situated in the market place in Malton in North Yorkshire. Malton has got such a buzz about it at the moment with it’s thriving reputation for independent food producers and shops. In fact there is so much buzz that the town even had a feature on it’s food scene in the latest edition of the Waitrose Food Magazine. Antonio Carluccio is also famed for naming the town, “Yorkshire’s food capital”.
Kemps General Stores contains a beautifully curated collection of home wares, kitchen accessories, toys, stationery, gardening items and books to name some of the ranges. It is the ultimate gift shop and would tick off any present buying requirements in a flash. In fact, most items are so amazingly nice I would personally want to buy them all for myself !!
My photography brief was to capture a sense of the experience of the shop and communicate that it is so much more than a gift shop. The suppliers do provide some wonderful pack shots of their products and creations but Liz was really keen to be able to give a feel for the ranges in the context of the shop interior. A strong frontage and interior shot were also on the must have shot list.

I’ve cherry picked some favourite images that I feel showcase the branding ethos of Kemps and the amazing product range.
