LEEDS CIVIC HALL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Rachel & Robin

 

It’s always lovely to be back in Leeds as I lived there for over ten years and it’s where I bought my first house and met my lovely husband!  Oh – and launched my photography business!  Lots of good memories!  You definitely can’t get much more Leeds than Leeds Civic Hall which was Rachel and Robin’s choice of ceremony venue.  It is such a grand building with stunning views across Millennium Square and the city.

My day started however a little distance away in Menston for some lovely girly getting ready coverage.  I was joined there by Jeff from Jeff Wood Visuals who fits my dream description of a great videographer – discreet, unobtrusive and totally gets my documentary style of working.  I should probably highlight that Jeff is known as a cinematographer as his work is so much more than video!!  Rachel’s beautiful flowers were created by the very talented Lynne at Stems Design.

I then hotfooted it over into Leeds to document the pre-ceremony build up.  Rachel made her arrival in style with a super cute VW Camper Van.  The ceremony was held in the main banqueting suite on the first floor.  It’s an epic room with amazing views across the city centre.  The ceremony was so lovely to photograph with some wonderful readings and plenty of emotion.  Rather than rush off, Rachel and Robin had arranged for guests to enjoy a drinks reception in the opulent surroundings of the Civic Hall.  This also gave the opportunity for some relaxed portraits of the couple in Millennium Square and surrounds.  Robin proposed under the carved owl at the rear door of the Civic Hall so it was a definite on the location list.  Owls actually managed to sneak themselves into the day in a big way so you’ll also spot some lovely details on the stationery and the beautiful wedding cake by Zoe’s Fancy Cakes.

I love a good confetti shot and there was a fantastic send off for Rachel and Robin down the main steps of the Civic Hall into Millennium Square.  The VW then whisked the newly weds away to the reception venue whilst guests were treated to a ride on a vintage double decker bus.  The reception was held a short distance away at Devonshire Hall in Headingley which is part of Leeds University.  It’s a hidden gem of a venue tucked away off a leafy tree lined road.  There is a lovely entrance courtyard and then an another grassed quad surrounded by cloisters.  After time for drinks, guests were seated in the main dining hall.  The venue was decorated by Simply Vintage Events who created the beautiful rustic displays in the entrance area as well as the fantastic table centres which were complimented with flowers and foliage by Stems Design.  My day rounded off with some wonderful speeches and I then tiptoed off as everyone tucked into some amazing looking food from Made in Leeds.  The fab heart shaped outdoor lighting in the courtyard that I captured on my way home  was set up by Typical Type – such a lovely touch.
