I LOVE a Newby Hall wedding !!  It’s such a perfect setting and for photos you have an amazing mix of backdrops to work with – a stately home oozing with history, stunning gardens and a marquee.

Clients at Newby Hall are looked after by the lovely Lucy from Lucy Wright Events who ensures all of the planning comes together and that the day runs smoothly and on time.

My day started with Laura and her Mum and bridesmaids as they got ready in the main house.  I captured a lovely sense of this part of the day before zooming down the estate drive to the church.  The ceremony was held at Christ the Consoler Church which is so beautiful inside.  I started at the front of the church to capture Laura’s entrance down the aisle.  I then tiptoed to the back during the first hymn.  I’m always conscious of my location during a ceremony and although sometimes will choose a front of church location I increasingly like to be based from the back.  This ensures I am as unobtrusive as possible but I also like that you can get both bride and groom equally rather than having to shoot from one side which puts priority on one rather than the other.  After the ceremony there was a great confetti departure as guests lined the church path before Laura and Felix drove themselves back up to the main house.  Guests were transported on a fantastic vintage coach by John Smith & Sons.

Before joining the main drinks reception we took the opportunity for some relaxed portraits of Laura and Felix up at the Stables Block.  They then joined their guests on the terrace for drinks and canapés.  It was photo perfect weather throughout the day with a bright day with cloud coverage.  This makes everything so much easier as the light is more even and flattering from all angles.  The grand finale of the drinks reception was the ride on the miniature train at the bottom of the gardens.  Guests had a fantastic time and I always love documenting this part of a Newby Hall wedding.  As guests wandered up the marquee we took another few moments for some portraits of Laura and Felix in the stunning gardens.

The marquee came from Will’s Marquees  and had a lovely rustic country feel to it.  Alongside all of the other wedding flowers  Lucy Macnicoll had created a stunning interior a curtain of flowers hanging between the marquee poles.  This looked so lovely and was a real focal point.  The tables were themed on Laura & Felix’s various sporting achievements and the table plan looked wonderful.  The beautiful cake was created by Keeley Kendall at Sugar Crafted Cakes.

Catering was in very good hands with Ged and the team at The Hog and Apple.  The main course was served on floating platters on the table which gave a lovely interactive feel.

Speeches were held at the end of the meal followed by the cutting of the cake and first dance.  I stayed to capture a sense of the party and then it was time for home.  I couldn’t resist a final night view of the marquee though before packing all my kit away.
