Chloe & Richard’s Marquee Wedding

I’ve been looking forward to sharing this wedding as it was such a lovely country celebration.  It was one of those days when everything came together so perfectly; great weather (if you gloss over the hail storm during the bridal preparations!), a fantastic set of guests, a seriously mega marquee and of course a very happy bride and groom!

I did my usual trick of arriving super early, so my day started off-schedule with some shots of the marquee and decor details.  I always like having a bit of extra space in the day for the details and sense of environment as later on in the day my priority always shifts towards people and moments.  The marquee was by Coopers Marquees.   It was an amazing creation and was very much built to cope with all weather conditions.  The clear roof over the bar area looked amazing and ensured there would have been plenty of well lit space for guests if the weather had not been so kind.  All of the floristry was done by Chloe’s Step-Mother as a wedding gift to the couple.  The displays at both the church and marquee looked stunning.  The table names were all equestrian related including the names of childhood ponies and Chloe’s current eventing horse Rio.  Arriving early also meant I was able to document the preparations of a very special guest – Duchess the beautiful Shire Horse who would play a crucial part in the wedding transport later on in the day!

I then went on to join Chloe and the girls capturing some of the final getting ready moments. Hair was by Emily Hawkes and make-up by Louise Lunn.  I’ve worked with Emily and Louise on a few weddings now and they always do such a fantastic job.  Chloe’s beautiful and timeless dress was by Paris bridal wear designer Cymberline and came from Mirror Mirror in London.

I then joined Richard and his team of groomsmen as they greeted guests at the church.

Due to the layout of many small country churches where there is often just one central aisle, I find it works best to be based from the back for the ceremony.  This gives much more scope to capture both bride and groom equally as well as a sense of readers and other key proceedings.  I did decide to do a speedy sprint down the side of the church outside and access the altar area during a hymn.  This enabled me to catch a lovely close up of Chloe and Richard without causing interruption to any of the key parts of the service.  Staying discreet and sensitive to proceedings and the experience of guests is always at the front of my mind during a wedding ceremony.  I will always try and position myself in a place that causes minimum disruption but still allows great coverage.

As hinted at earlier, Duchess the shire mare was ready in waiting to transport the newly weds to the reception venue near to the church.  One of Chloe and Richard’s favourite images from the day was the black and white shot of the cart leaving the church grounds.  They even chose it to feature on their thank you cards.  Wedding cars also played an important part and the two stylish vintage cars came from Brooklands Vintage Wedding Cars.

Guests were greeted at the marquee reception with an informal receiving line.  Champagne was served on the lawn in lovely sunshine.  Hospitality and catering was taken care of by the super slick team at Dine.  They are such a professional company and the quality of the food served was superb.   Music was provided by members of the York Railway Institute Brass Band.  A little time was spent capturing some relaxed family groups and some portraits of Chloe & Richard.

Documentary style coverage continued through the wedding breakfast and as some beautiful light was available inside the marquee as the day shifted into evening.  Speeches were held following the meal and provided a wonderful opportunity to capture candid portraits of guests as well as some emotional moments.

The stunning cake was created by Birdgate Chocolatiers who are based in Pickering, North Yorkshire.  The cake was a bespoke creation based on the design of Chloe & Richard’s wedding invitation design. This has to be one of my favourite cake cutting shots for a long time!

Music for the evening party was provided by the Bush Doctors from Lincolnshire.  Chloe and Richard wowed their guests with a pretty neat dance routine including full a full lift!  I tiptoed off leaving the party in full swing but couldn’t resist a final image of the marquee by night before departing.

Huge congratulations again to Chloe and Richard xx
