DOCUMENTARY WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

CHRISTINE & TOM’S YORK WEDDING

 

I always adore weddings on my home turf in York as I have so much pride in the beautiful city I live in.  My day started with Christine and her family and team of bridesmaids at a beautiful rented cottage out in the countryside near Stamford Bridge.  There were lots of lovely details and moments to capture as everyone got ready.  The first image I’ve shared with you is of Christine’s figure of the Child of Prague.  Her Mother bought it over from Ireland and it’s an ancient Irish tradition where the bride places the statue outside the house the night before a wedding as a prayer for good weather.  It definitely worked and despite a slightly challenging forecast we ended up with a beautiful sunny day!!

After seeing Christine into her stunning dress I drove back into central York to St Wilfred’s Catholic Church to catch up with groom Tom and capture the build up to the ceremony.  The church is situated just down the road from York Minster  and it’s interior is really lovely with great light.  I always love photographing there.

After the ceremony, guests made their way to the reception venue which was The Pavilion Hotel in Fulford.  Meanwhile, Christine & Tom stayed behind with their immediate family and bridal party for some relaxed groups in Dean’s Park which is tucked behind the Minster.  We also took some time for some informal portraits of Christine & Tom too around the grounds of the Minster.

There was enough warmth for guests to spend some time in the courtyard garden at The Pavilion before settling into the main reception room for the wedding breakfast and speeches.  Some great moments were captured during the speeches and it’s always one of my favourite parts of the day for documentary wedding photography.  I saw Christine & Tom onto the dancefloor for their First Dance and then tiptoed off and left a fantastic party in full swing a little later.
